Latest fin whaling season ends in Iceland
26 September 2018 - 6:28pm
According to reports from Iceland, the latest fin whaling season there is officially over with 146 fin whales killed, including at least two rare blue whale/fin whale hybrids. A dozen pregnant females have also been slaughtered.
The minke whaling season ended early, in late July with six minkes killed. The future of the industry in Iceland will now be decided in a review due to be held this autumn.
Whaling is cruel, unprofitable and whale meat is increasingly unpopular. However, powerful pro-whaling vested interests within Iceland will ensure that the outcome of the review is by no means certain. WDC supports whale watching in Icelandic waters, which brings in huge revenues to the country. The only rational outcome of the review process is for whaling to end for good.
WDC is fighting to STOP whaling. DONATE and help.
