Sundance Paying A Flying Visit !
After a week or so of not seeing much of WDC Adopt a Dolphin star “Sundance” he returned to Chanonry Point yesterday evening in typical flamboyant style – chasing another dolphin (in this case it was Kesslet’s son Charlie) and spray going everywhere. I always have to look back at slightly older photos of him…

Today I had my first good sighting of WDC adoption star Rainbow this season, I knew she had been spotted recently by Sarah from the Ecoventures tour boat but it was great getting her and her lovely son Indigo in my cameras viewfinder again. Both dolphins are looking great and were surfing through the rough…

It was lovely to see two of the WDC Adoption dolphins – Moonlight and Mischief – in close to the beach at Chanonry Point yesterday and despite the strong and very cold North-Easterly wind the light was lovely and good for photography, great for picking out fine details on the dorsal fins of the dolphins…

Sadly we think that Kesslet has lost her latest baby at around 7 months old as it has been over two weeks now with no sightings of a cute little dinky dorsal fin next to either Kesslet or Charlie. Dolphins calves at this age are still very maternally dependant and couldn’t survive on their own.…

Migratory salmon are being caught more regularly now at Chanonry Point by the resident dolphins including some of the WDC Adopt a Dolphin stars but possibly the most famous dolphin that catches fish locally is lovely “Zephyr” as she often catches fish that are a little too big to be swallowed right away. What she…

It’s great to see some dolphins beginning to visit Chanonry Point after the winter and recently big Scoopy or “Flosse” to our WDC colleagues in Germany (“Flosse” meaning fin or flipper in German) has turned up and immediately caught himself a lovely big salmon, maybe 6kg in weight – good to see him keeping his…

After a few frustrasting weeks of playing hide and seek with Kesslet and her baby I have managed, finally, to get a few (poor) photos of them in Inverness Harbour but I was hoping to see them nearer to my camera today at Chanonry where I had two WDC colleagues with me, Tracey and Helen,…

It a real tempest out there in the waters of the Moray Firth today. People often ask “What do dolphins do in bad weather?” and the simple answer is…they just dive down a few feet and all is relatively serene and calm compared to what its like at the surface. In fact dolphins will often…

One of WDC‘S intrepid Shorewatchers – Monika Carrie, has been sending me dorsal fin photos of some of the many Bottlenose dolphins that her and fellow Shorewatcher Walter Innes have been seeing and photographing recently hunting around the Aberdeen Harbour area. Amongst many well known fins that I see in the Inner Moray Firth (some…
