Record-breaking donation boosts WDC’s work to end captivity

WDC is delighted to announce that it has received its largest corporate donation to-date of just under $680k from our friends at Humble Bundle following WDC’s nomination as Humble Bundle’s ‘charity of the month’ for August. The donation will be used to support our vital world to put an end to the cruel practice of keeping whales and dolphins in captivity.

The special promotion, which ended on September 7th, saw WDC receive a percentage of the profits from a range of video games, software and books bundles sold through Humble Bundle, as well as sales from Humble Bundle’s own online store. The bundles benefitting WDC included the ‘Big Data’ book Bundle from Packt, the ‘Program your own games’ book bundle from Mercury, a ‘Video & Photo Editing’ software bundle by Cyberlink and 4 fantastic games bundles.

It was also supported also by our patron and Game of Thrones star, Jerome Flynn, who created a special video for the Humble Bundle community thanking them for their incredible support and generosity. The video, highlighting WDC’s work to end captivity and our exciting work with the SEA LIFE Trust to build the world’s first beluga sanctuary, was filmed with Jerome during a special trip to Iceland and has already been seen on Facebook by over 60k people all over the world.

‘The funds you have raised have directly contributed to this ground-breaking project’, said Jerome. ‘We hope that this will be the first of many sanctuaries all over the world and the beginning of the end of whale and dolphin captivity, and we really couldn’t do this work without you.’

Since Humble Bundle’s launch in 2010, the Humble Bundle community has raised a staggering $134 million for a wide range of charities and good causes and has had a huge impact on WDC’s work to keep whales and dolphins safe and free – supporting our fundraising efforts with long-term WDC partners SEGA and Relic Entertainment and the Yogcast’s amazing Jingle Jam fundraisers, as well as our annual Gamers for Orcas events in 2017 and 2018.
