SeaWorld San Diego visitors down again
SeaWorld’s marine park in San Diego was the only one of North America’s top 20 most-visited theme parks to see a decline in attendance figures in 2015 according to the latest industry report.
While the average growth for other attractions was nearly 6%, the San Diego park saw its number drop by 7%. Its sister park in Orlando, Florida faired little better, with numbers up just 2%.
Having announced at the end of last year that it would phase out orca shows in San Diego, SeaWorld announced in March that it would no longer breed from the orcas it holds in captivity. WDC and others are now calling for the company to provide more suitable habitats for the remaining orcas.
