Humpback whale sighted off Devon

A humpback whale has been recorded off the coast of Devon, the latest in what is turning out to be a great year for whale and dolphin sightings around the UK coastline.

The whale was filmed off Dartmouth on Monday by yachtsman, Peter Green. Though only occasionally seen in waters around the British Isles, a humpback also turned up in Liverpool Bay in June while another whale was encountered by paddleboarders in Cork, Ireland. A further whale sadly died after becoming entangled in fishing nets off the north-east coast of Scotland.  Elsewhere, orcas have been amazing whale watchers off the coast of northern Scotland while there have been good recent sightings of minke whales around the Hebrides in western Scotland.
