Accidents Unlikely On Oil Rigs, UK Government Tells WDCS Supporters!

In late 2011, we asked the public and WDCS supporters to email the UK Government expressing concerns over its plans to allow further deep water oil exploration 80 miles off the coast of the Shetlands in Scotland.

We thought you might like to see the UK Government’s response to your emails and how it carefully considers potential environmental impacts in the ‘unlikely event’ that any accidents should occur on these deep water platforms.

This week has seen a two-mile exclusion zone set up around a North Sea oil platform 150 miles off the Scottish coast, which was evacuated after an ‘unlikely’ accident.
