The Pacific Rim Whale Festival Gets Underway

On the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, the small communities of Tofino and Ucluelet are gearing up for the Pacific Rim Whale Festival which begins on the 17th March and marks the opening of the region’s famed whale watching season, and also the annual migration of over 20, 000 gray whales on their 13, 000 km journey from the waters of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula to the Bering Sea.

The nine days and nights of events are considered to make up one of the biggest festivals in the world. The event is operated by volunteers and includes art shows, workshops and field trips all designed to celebrate the regions traditions, unique environment and the spring return of the gray whale.
