Japan Take Less Than Full Quota As Whaling Season Ends

Japan’s Fisheries Agency has announced the end of its whaling season in the Antarctic Ocean, with the number of whales killed falling well short of the total it is allowed to take.

The Agency claims that 266 minke whales and one fin whale were slaughtered, less than a third of its quota. Despite the ban on commercial whaling, and a lack of demand for the meat, Japan’s ships sail to the Antarctic in the Autumn to hunt until the following Spring for what it calls ‘scientific research’.
