More Than 260 Dolphins Washed Ashore On Peruvian Coasts
According to officials in Peru, at least 264 dolphins were found dead over a 103km stretch of coastline in Lambayeque, northern Peru during early February.
The cause of these deaths is not clear yet, with reports linking the deaths to oil and gas exploration. But some officials believe that these dolphins died after feeding on poisoned anchovies. This theory is based the dicovery of dead anchovies in a similar area that are thought to have fed on contaminated plankton. Samples were taken and sent to Lima for thorough analysis, and to determine what could have caused the deaths of so many dolphins.
