New Year Dolphin Slaughter Begins In Taiji

Although the fishermen in Taiji took a two week break from hunting and killing dolphins in the drive hunts over the holiday period, reports from the ground on Wednesday, January 4th indicate that over 40 striped dolphins were slaughtered in the cove.  This latest cruel killing spree marks the first of the New Year and, halfway through the permitted hunt season, the number of dolphins of mixed species killed is nearly 500 with another 29 transported alive to aquariums.  The quota (number of dolphins allowed to be killed in Taiji) is 1,265 dolphins for this drive hunt season and so many more may be killed from now until the season ends mid way through this year.
